Marathon Confirms Austin is Great Place to Live

I often catch myself thinking about how lucky I am to be able to call Austin home. The thought is usually triggered by something I’ve recently seen or heard, or possibly a new restaurant or venue that has just opened up. Rarely am I ever able to recall what the “trigger” was exactly, but that wasn’t the case last week. In fact I don’t think I will ever forget what it was that reminded me why Austin is such an amazing city to live in. My thought can be traced back to the weekend before last when I joined thousands of other spectators to watch the annual Austin Marathon. As I stood on Shoal Creek Blvd and cheered on the runners, I saw two Army Rangers with 50 lb backpacks run past me. I was immediately overcome with a sense of pride, gratitude and inspiration. So proud of these to men and everything they stood for…and so proud to be one of the thousands of Austinites out there that morning cheering them on. It’s moments like this that keep a smile on my face and serve as a powerful reminder that we are blessed to live in such a great city. Even though I didn’t have any close friends or family members running this year, the energy from the runners and spectators was contagious. So much so that I am already looking forward to the 2016 marathon.

It turns out these two Army Rangers ran the Austin Marathon in preparation for the Best Ranger Competition in Fort Benning, GA on April 10. The competition will be streamed online at bestrangercompetition.com if you are interested in watching them. Best of luck to these two Army Rangers and all of the other competitors!
