About 29 miles Northeast of Austin on Highway 79 the town of Taylor, Texas, population 17,000 recently became home to some of the biggest tech news around. Samsung announced that it would build a new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taylor, Texas. The estimated $17 billion investment in will help boost production of advanced logic semiconductor solutions that power next-generation innovations and technologies. Like many Austin suburbs, Taylor’s population has increased almost 14% since 2010. After the Samsung announcement that increase is likely to pick up speed. While housing prices in Austin continue to skyrocket many newcomers are finding more affordable home options in the areas just outside of Austin. It’s not just tech companies and homeowners that find the suburbs appealing. Industries like manufacturing and distribution are seeing the benefits of plentiful land, good infrastructure (i.e. SH-130) and proximity to ABIA as assets in moving goods and services throughout the region and the Texas Triangle.
