Tesla has revealed the location of its next US Gigafactory as the city of Austin, in Texas, where it says work has already begun on what will be a 2,000 acre “ecological paradise.”

Speaking following the company’s Q2 2020 results announcement on Thursday morning (AEST), Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk said the under-construction “Giga Texas” would manufacture Tesla’s much-hyped electric utility, the Cybertruck (or electric ute) as well as the Tesla Semi, and the Models 3 and Y EVs for the eastern half of north America. 

Its California operations will continue to build the Model X and Model S cars, as well as Model 3 and Model Y cars for the western market in the US. 

Another Gigafactory is being built in Berlin (artist’s impression pictured above), adding to the Shanghai Gigafactory in China that is already in operation.

“We’re … very excited to announce that we’re going to be building our next Gigafactory in Texas,” Musk told an investor briefing following the results call.

Amazon is officially coming to Pflugerville — and bringing 1,000 jobs. 
The Seattle-based online retail giant announced July 15 it is opening a fulfillment center in Pflugerville. 
It’s been known for months that Amazon was planning a huge facility in the Travis County suburb. Austin Business Journal first reported in December 2019 that the company was behind the massive distribution center nicknamed “Project Charm” in city documents, about 94 acres of agricultural property were rezoned into a planned unit development in January. Amazon confirmed the site will create 1,000 full-time jobs.


750 Acres In Northeast Austin Being Marketed For Future Development 
As demand for more commercial and industrial space continues to push east, the developer of the massive Harris Branch master-planned development in Northeast Austin is listing the last of its property for sale.
The more than 750 acres is divided into multiple tracts at the intersection of U.S. Highway 290 and the State Highway 130 toll road.

Hill Country Community Springs Up With Hundreds Of New Homes Beginning In $200
The fast-growing community of Dripping Springs is about to grow even more. Meritage Homes recently kicked off the sale of more than 700 homes in the 200-acre, master-planned Big Sky Ranch development, about 25 miles west of downtown Austin.
Prices for the single-family, one- and two-story homes start in the $260s.

Kalahari Resort & Waterpark to Open November 12
After its announcement four years ago and a year-and-a-half of construction, the Kalahari Resorts Round Rock finally has an opening date: Nov. 12. 
The full resort and waterpark will debut on opening day, said Natasha Lucke, Kalahari Resorts and Conventions co-owner. That includes a 223,000-square-foot indoor waterpark, 3 acres of outdoor pools, a 975-room hotel, five restaurants, 10,000 square feet of retail space and a 200,000 square-foot convention center.

Several local restaurant owners made a bid on the bankrupt, Tex-Mex chain Trudy’s before the July 17 deadline — including the owners of El Arroyo and Steiner Ranch Steakhouse, according to the Austin Business Journal.
The auction for Trudy’s will be held by phone on July 23..
