There’s no question about it…Austin is changing and it’s happening FAST! I know from the conversations I’ve had with a lot of you that the rapid growth and it’s ripple effects are exciting but can also be unsettling. I understand…and I can say with the utmost confidence that this is our new normal.
I read the economic reports and watch the monthly real estate numbers in both the commercial and residential sectors – they are staggering. According to Opportunity Austin 2020 Annual Report, 109 companies announced their expansion or relocation to Austin in 2020. Of course, the big one was Tesla. The Gigafactory alone will bring will bring an estimated $1 billion in capital investment and approximately 5,000 jobs to the region. Now with the Tesla Headquarters relocation announcement, those numbers will be much higher.
Yesterday, the Austin Business Journal published an article entitled, “What’s Next for the City’s Skyline.” According to Rohit, “Don’t expect this growth — both in terms of population and skyline — to slow down anytime soon. Austin’s city bird will continue to be the crane for the next few years. While a few high-rises have either delivered or are close to being complete, expect a few more to pop up on the horizon sooner than later.”
