ONZoom
— Video-calling software provider Zoom on Wednesday announced a way for users to put on live virtual events that people can pay to attend. The OnZoom option makes Zoom more than just a competitor to the likes of Google and Microsoft. Zoom is building on the exposure it has enjoyed this year with the onset of the coronavirus and encroaching on the territory of companies that sell tickets to live events, including Eventbrite and Live Nation.

Businesses are seeking places to expand that are pro-growth, low-tax, politically stable, and with an educated workforce in advanced degrees like engineering, math, technology, business, and law. Austin, Salt Lake City, Raleigh, Charlotte, Nashville, and San Jose all top the list in 2020 in this respect according to CoStar, with occupied office growth expected to exceed 10% over the next 5 years. Dallas, Miami, Phoenix, Atlanta, San Antonio, and Boston are all expected to grow by 8%+ as of Q3 2020.

Savvy shoppers everywhere, hold on to your sample-sale hats – Walmart just revealed its planning three Black Fridays this year.
Walmart U.S. CEO John Furner said Wednesday on NBC’s Today show that the company is splitting its typical Black Friday sale into three separate events, in order to minimize crowds during the coronavirus pandemic and avoid overwhelming the supply chain, which has been stretched thin throughout the months-long crisis.

More than 60% of respondents in a survey by the Urban Land Institute and PwC said that office tenants are likely to reconfigure their interiors to have enough safe, socially distanced space to enable new types of collaborative, in-person work. Whether that results in them acquiring more square footage or just adapting what they already have is up for debate.

HOUSING MARKET SOARS
DESPITE LOW INVENTORY

AUSTIN, Texas – According to the latest Central Texas Housing Market Report released by the Austin Board of REALTORS® (ABoR), the Central Texas housing market continues to exhibit strength despite economic challenges and shrinking housing inventory.

In September, home sales across the Austin-Round Rock MSA soared 31.5% year over year to 3,892 sales. Historically this time of year home sales are slower, but because of decreased activity during the shelter-in-place orders due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the summer selling season extended into September.

The market’s strength was evident across the five-county MSA as sales dollar volume jumped 51.7% to $1,779,067,529, and the median price rose 12.1% to $355,000. New listings increased 5.0% to 3,539 listings, and pending sales jumped 28.2% to 3,767. At the same time, active listings dropped 49.9% to 3,708 listings.
