Lower Property Tax, Vote Yes on Prop 4

On November 7th, 2023, there will be 14 state constitutional amendments on the ballot. Proposition 4 is the one of the most important as it will impact property taxes in Texas. This amendment aims to provide some financial relief to both homeowner’s, elderly or disabled, and investors.

A “yes” vote supports the following changes:

  • Increase the homestead tax emption from $40,0000 to $100,000
  • Limit the annual appraisal increase for non-homestead properties (investors) to 20% max increase a year
  • Increase on exemption amounts imposed on elderly and disabled (adjust the amount of limitation on school district tax)
  • Pay for ad valorem tax relief from the constitutional limitation on the rate of growth of appropriations (Texas will fund some of the public schools, reducing the school tax rates)
  • Provide for four-year terms for members of the governing body of the appraisal entity in counties with a population of 75,000 or more
