We had the pleasure of working with our friend, entrepreneur, author and top food-blogger Jane Ko  @atasteofkoko on a recent episode of The American Dream TV, Austin Edition. We ate our way through Austin with visits to the restaurants below and a quick tour of the real estate in 78704!

FILMING DAY HIGHLIGHTS

COFFEE at JO’s | SOUTH CONGRESS

We started our filming day at Jo’s Coffee Shop on South Congress. Fueled with vanilla latte’s we were ready for our eating adventures! Jo’s opened on South Congress Ave. in 1999 and has been serving coffee, tacos, sandwiches and prime people watching ever since. A hub of community activity, Jo’s regularly hosts fundraisers and dogs are always welcome.

Jane is Austin’s top-food blogger which by nature makes her a BBQ connoisseur and expert!  She ordered us a heaping tray full of BBQ goodness including beef and pork ribs, brisket, turkey, potato salad, mac n cheese, pickles, onions and bread! We got a smoke house  tour and bought some great merchandise. Terry Black’s for the the win!

GORDOUGH’S BIG FAT DONUTS

Next stop… Gordough’s Big Fat Donuts on South First! This food trailer serves up the yummiest fried dough around! Don’t let the quirky names fool you, these delicious fried treats mean serious business. We ate the Mother Clucker, Miss Shortcake and Blue Balls…each one was confection perfection!

FRESA’S | SOUTH FIRST

This colorful Tex-Mex restaurant is Jane’s favorite for spot for queso, sharable wood-grilled meals, tacos and margaritas! We ordered up the chimichurri skirt steak, a bowl of queso, the chicken tacos and a frozen prickly pear margarita…delicious and a great patio atmosphere!

BAR PEACHED | WEST 6TH

We wrapped up a very full day at Bar Peached…it’s an ideal location for happy hour or dinner. Another great patio atmosphere and one of the best paloma’s around!

An episode of the American Dream TV would not be complete without insights into Austin real estate. Since we were sampling the delicious fare in 78704, we spent some time touring one of the modern homes prevalent available in the area. Because of its close proximity to downtown, Lady Bird Lake, Zilker Park and walkability to many new restaurants and bars, 78704 continues to be one of Austin’s most popular residential destinations. Condos in the area start around $300,000 and single family homes that are older, smaller bungalow style or a newer property with A and B unit can start around $750,000. Newer modern single family homes start around  $1.2M. For more information about homes in 78704, email [email protected].
