AUSTIN POPULATION TO SURGE THROUGH 2029
Brace yourselves, Austin. Following 10 years of eye-popping population growth, the Capital City is expected to once again be among the nation’s top 10 metro areas for number of new residents this decade. New data from commercial real estate services company Cushman & Wakefield shows the Austin metro area gained 549,141 residents from 2010 through 2019. In terms of the number of new residents tallied during the past decade, Austin ranked ninth among U.S. metro areas, the data indicates. Full Article from Austin Culture Map

TITO’S TOP DISTILLED SPIRIT IN US

The top-selling distilled spirit in the country is made right here in Austin, according to the International Wine and Spirits Record.
Tito’s Handmade Vodka knocked Smirnoff vodka off its decade-long reign at the top of the chart, the London-based agency said in its 2019 U.S. beverage alcohol review.
In a press release Wednesday, the IWSR said Tito’s sales jumped more than 20% in 2019. Vodka is also the largest spirit category by volume in the country, the report said.

MOODY ARENA BREAKS GROUND

The Moody Center, named after the Moody Foundation which donated a $130 million grant to the university, is expected to open in 2022. The 10,000-seat arena can expand to accommodate 15,000 seats. UT Austin expects in addition to hosting men’s and women’s basketball games, it will be the site of concerts, graduations and other events.
“(We’re) honoring our ancestors by building a bigger better future for generations of Texans,” Ross Moody, trustee for the Moody Foundation, said.
AMAZON WAREHOUSE ADVANCES

A massive 3.8 million-square-foot Amazon.com Inc. distribution facility proposed in Pflugerville passed one of its first hurdles Jan. 14, despite several residents speaking out against the project.
The Pflugerville City Council unanimously approved on first reading the rezoning of 94 acres for the industrial development.

The 2040 Master Plan for the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport took 18 months to prepare and included forecasting, demand-capacity analysis, alternatives analysis and community involvement. ABIA expects to exceed 31 million annual passengers by the year 2037, and the master plan is intended to guide how ABIA accommodates this growth.
