FEDERAL RESERVE LEAVES
RATES NEAR ZERO

WASHINGTON — The Federal Reserve left interest rates near zero Wednesday and pledged to keep supporting the U.S. economy as the pandemic continues to depress economic growth and sideline millions of workers.

“The path of the economy will depend significantly on the course of the virus,” the central bank said in its post-meeting statement, which reiterated that the Fed will keep low rates in place “until it is confident that the economy has weathered recent events.”

Jerome Powell, the Fed chair, said at a news conference following the meeting that the “pace of recovery looks like it has slowed” since the virus began to spike again in June. While employment ticked up in May and June, “recent labor market indicators point to a slowing in job growth, particularly among smaller businesses,” he said, adding the outlook for consumer spending “may be softening again now.”

The Fed chair said the central bank remains committed to using all its tools to “provide some relief and stability to ensure that the recovery will be as strong as possible and to limit lasting damage to the economy.”

Whole Foods is Growing Downtown
Whole Foods Market Inc. may finally be moving forward with the expansion of its headquarters in downtown Austin.
The upscale grocery chain has long standing plans to build a second building at 835 W. Sixth St., just south of where Schlosser Development Co. built the 15-story Shoal Creek Walk office tower. These plans originated years before Seattle-based technology behemoth Amazon Inc. acquired Whole Foods in 2017.

Construction on a five-story, 143,800-square-foot Whole Foods building could start as early as Aug. 31, according to a July 13 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation

Olamaie’s Biscuits are BACK!
It’s been three weeks since we’ve launched Little Ola’s Biscuits, the contactless takeaway biscuit pop-up shop inside Olamaie. When we made the emotional decision to close our dining room in March, we never could have predicted the outpouring we’d be met with these last few weeks. It’s been so great seeing (the tops of) your faces, and thanks to y’all, we’re able to continue to provide full health benefits for our team during a time when it couldn’t matter more.

Lavender Dots the Hill Country
Used for centuries to ease stress and promote mental wellness, lavender is a sacred plant. Fields of pretty purple blossoms paint the Texas Hill Country landscape from late spring into summer and appear at apothecaries, boutiques, and farmers markets across the region. The Lakeway Resort & Spa,  has a Lavender Lemonade Cocktail that helps to pay homage to this special hill country treasure – perfectly poured into a sugar-rimmed martini glass; garnished with lavender springs and a halved lemon slice.

— FUN AUSTIN FINDS —

GATI ICE CREAM OPENS

It all started with a case of leftover mangoes…
Jam, owner and chef at Thai Fresh, had bought too many mangoes for the restaurant and needed to move them quickly. Someone suggested we make ice cream. So she made coconut milk based mango-lime ice cream to sell as a dessert and it went like hotcakes.

THE WIND + THE WAVE LIVE STREAM

We’re back at it again with two shows at 3pm CDT and 7pm CDT on Saturday 8/1/2020 to accommodate all of our friends near and far. The show format will feature Patty and Dwight playing through their third record ‘Human Beings Let You Down’ in its entirety, in order, acoustically!

KAMMOCK LAUNCHES BAYA

The Baya was made for breezy, backyard lounging. This communal outdoor lounge features space for three hammocks, all-weather construction, and an adaptable design to take your time outside to new heights. Hammocks and table sold separately.

AUSTIN RESIDENTIAL MARKET IS HOT

Residential real estate in Austin remains a very hot market – inventory numbers continue to decline leaving fewer homes for buyers to choose from – this means multiple offers and higher prices. Even with the declining inventory, closed sales are up by 9% meaning that more homes are selling despite being fewer available options. More companies are moving to the area bringing jobs and people!

FOUR HANDS OUTLET

One of my favorite things to do is meander through the Four Hands Furniture Outlet on Anderson Lane. They have the best and most unexpected finds.
Four Hands is an Austin gem – they supply furniture to the trades and believe there is no end to what furniture can do for a space. At Four Hands, we furnish style. Visit their IG for inspo! @fourhandsfurniture
